I Confess ...

... I can't be bothered blogging. I'm tired, I'm sick, and there's a million things I should be doing right now, none of which I want to do. Therefore, this post is uber short, and pretty much just for those who frequently check to see if I've got anything new up. Sorry, people, but this is it.

The thing I wanted to talk about today is how people become well-known. No, ok, the question that is really on my mind is this: How can I become well-known, especially before I am published?

Any ideas? (By the way, this is where the commenting feature comes in handy.)

  1. My question to you is this: Why is it so important to be well known?

  2. It is important because when I finally do get published, my name will be out there, I will already be known, and I will have a tonne of people who can get behind me and support the selling of my book.

For example, an author of 21 years got sent on quite a large book tour with his first ever book, and the initial print run was 75,000. This never happens to debut authors. When I asked him on a forum why it did, he just said, "I got really lucky." But since then I realised that he already had thousands and thousands of people behind him from when he hosted a radio show, his fansite - TwilightGuy.com - and his youtubing. And, after publishing his second book, although he isn't a bestseller yet, he's well on his way.

  3. ok, so you want to be well known, but what do you want to be well known for doing? You will not get well know for writing on this blog unless you change the content, and use the blog to showcase your literary works. At the moment you are using it to chat with the world. Twitter is even less able to show the world anything about you.

Here's a idea. You need something to get your followers to come back regularly, so you could either write lots of poems and publish one each week, or write a serialised story where you publish a chapter or segment each week. Publishing a story will give your readers a continually developing thread to return to.
